27th Central Children’s Home Day Celebration Sparks Interest in the Knights of Pythagoras During Juneteenth Weekend

Today, I attended the 27th Central Children’s Home Day Celebration in Oxford, North Carolina, where hundreds of community members, Masonic Brothers and Sisters, families, and friends gathered for a day of fellowship, entertainment, and celebration.
The event was filled with an atmosphere of joy and unity as attendees enjoyed a wide variety of delicious food from local vendors, inspiring musical selections from gospel choirs, classic automobiles, children’s activities, and numerous opportunities to reconnect with friends and community partners. It was truly a wonderful way to celebrate the spirit of Juneteenth, reflecting on our shared history while embracing hope and opportunity for future generations.
While enjoying the festivities, I had the opportunity to connect with my counterpart; Grand Gleaner Directress - Beverly Richardson who oversees the NC Gleaner Youth Department. I was especially encouraged by the number of Masonic Brothers who approached me to learn more about the Knights of Pythagoras and our mission of mentoring and developing young men. We had meaningful conversations about establishing new councils and revitalizing existing ones across our jurisdiction.
One particularly exciting conversation was with Senior Advisor Deonta Clark and District Deputy Grand Master Phillip Webb of the 13th Masonic District. The Brothers shared their enthusiasm for reactivating their local Knights of Pythagoras council and discussed plans already underway. They currently have five young men ready to join the program, along with several Brothers who have expressed a willingness to serve as advisors and mentors.
Conversations like these are a reminder that the future of the Knights of Pythagoras remains bright. Across our jurisdiction, Brothers are recognizing the importance of investing in our youth and ensuring that the next generation of leaders is prepared to serve their communities with character, integrity, and purpose.
The 27th Central Children’s Home Day Celebration was more than just a community event—it was an opportunity to strengthen relationships, celebrate our heritage, and plant seeds for the continued growth of our beloved Knights of Pythagoras program.
