Celebrating 75 Years of KOP Within the Conference of Grand Masters

For seventy-five years, the Order of the Knights of Pythagoras has stood as a shining example of mentorship, leadership, discipline, and service under the proud banner of Prince Hall Masonry. During the 107th Conference of Grand Masters, jurisdictions from across the nation came together not only to conduct business, but to celebrate a historic milestone; 75 years of the Order of the Knights of Pythagoras being formally apart of the Conference of Grand Masters structure.

The history of KOP reaches back even further than 1951. As early as 1938, within the Grand Jurisdictions of Kansas and Colorado, visionary Prince Hall Masons established a youth mentoring movement grounded in brotherhood, moral integrity, discipline, education, and service to humanity. What began as a local effort to guide young men would eventually grow into a nationally respected mentoring organization impacting generations of youth.

A defining moment in KOP history occurred during the Annual Conference of the Most Worshipful Grand Masters, held May 8–10, 1951, in Denver, Colorado, under the leadership of Grand Master Amos T. Hall, President. It was during this historic gathering that the name “Order of the Knights of Pythagoras” was formally adopted. This was more than simply adopting a name, it established an identity rooted in wisdom, knowledge, discipline, and excellence that continues to guide the Order today.

Now, seventy-five years later, the Order proudly spans thirty-seven jurisdictions, including international jurisdictions, continuing to shape young men into principled leaders for their communities and the Fraternity. Across every jurisdiction represented at the Conference of Grand Masters, this anniversary was not just a celebration of longevity, but a celebration of impact.

Throughout the conference, leaders reflected on the enduring mission of KOP and the countless mentors, advisors, parents, and supporters who have dedicated themselves to the development of young men for generations. The official proclamation recognizing the 75th Anniversary of the Order of the Knights of Pythagoras served as a powerful reminder of the Order’s historic legacy and promising future.

The current National Leadership of the Order of the Knights of Pythagoras remains committed to advancing the mission and vision of KOP across all jurisdictions:

  • PMWGM Kelvin Davis – Mentoring Chair (Ohio)
  • Michael L. Simms, Sr. – President (Texas)
  • Scott Ferguson – 1st Vice President (Kentucky)
  • Carl Albritton – 2nd Vice President (Virginia)
  • Robert Hassell – Secretary (North Carolina)
  • Kendrick Brown – Treasurer (Bahamas)
  • Aldric Little – Chaplain (Georgia)

Together, the National Leadership team stands ready to support and assist all current jurisdictions within the Conference of Grand Masters in strengthening and advancing their KOP programs. We also remain committed to helping jurisdictions establish new programs and re-energize existing ones to ensure the continued growth and impact of youth mentorship throughout Prince Hall Masonry.

Any jurisdiction seeking assistance, guidance, resources, or support is encouraged to simply reach out to us as we continue working together to build stronger young men, stronger programs, and stronger jurisdictions.

If you need to contact the National Leadership for assistance or information regarding the Order of the Knights of Pythagoras, please contact the National Secretary at National.KOP.Secretary@gmail.com.

As jurisdictions celebrated this historic milestone together, there was also a renewed commitment to ensuring the next generation of Knights continues to rise with honor, vision, leadership, and purpose. The work of KOP remains as relevant today as it was decades ago; developing better young men, strengthening communities, and preserving the future through mentorship and education.
